Green Fees: Fees Seizing Students' Hard-Earned Green
There has been a concerted nationwide effort by the left on college campuses to burden students with so-called "green fees." Fortunately, conservative groups like the Texas Aggie Conservatives are fighting back.
Over 30 colleges and universities have already imposed such fees on students and the list is growing. Texas A&M University, the University of Texas, and Oklahoma State University all have green fees up for a student vote this week.
Even supposing that the initiatives to be funded by these fees were worthwhile (which I would deny), why should students have to pay for them during these economic hard times? Are these fees compassionate toward students and their families trying to pay for college? Not at all.
Universities should only engage in initiatives that increase efficiency and thus save them money over time. That saved money should be used to pay for the initatives, not more student fees!
With the help of CampusReform.org staff, the Texas Aggie Conservatives (TAC) at Texas A&M have launched a creative counterattack of activism. Mocking the left and their initiatives, the students are posing as "green police" handing out "tickets" with information detailing why students should vote NO on the fee. The Facebook event for the activism has over 100 members.
Are there green fees currently or potentially soon-to-be on your campus? Let us know! Like TAC, you too can fight back against these fees and stand up for the interests of all students on your campus!
Here's what you can do to combat the strong enviro-mania gripping your campus:
- Follow in the footseps of TAC and host your own green police activism. Never be afraid to steal a good idea that works. Contact me if you have any questions about how to hold this event.
- Start a chapter of Collegians for a Constructive Tomorrow (CFACT). You can't change your campus unless you organize people around their hot button issues. CFACT is a wonderful organization to work with too.
- Host a screening of the film Not Evil, Just Wrong. This documentary exposes the true cost of global warming hysteria.
- Host a speaker who can combat the pseudo-science! CFACT can help a lot with finding a good speaker and the logistics. I highly recommend Chris Horner and Christopher Lord Monckton.
